19 Year Old Therapy Dog Gives Meaning to a Dying Woman

His name is Baxter and at the age of 19, he was still inspiring elderly people in their final days. Baxter has died since this video was shot, but he lives on in our memories as one of the biggest inspirations. What an amazing dog.

Oh Melissa, what a blessing you and Baxter were to all whose paths you crossed. I am so amazed at the love Baxter gave to those who were at the end of their lives. I knew you years ago at Rainbow Co-op. I worked as a volunteer in the early 80's. You may not remember me but I always thought a lot of you back then. But because of your compassion for the elderly in their final days, I think a whole lot more of you.

Stop me if u have herd this one ok ... Death is only the beginning ... I should have died ... I cant believe Im still alive ... Wow that was a close brush with death ... <<< Ive been electrocuted, stabbed, shot at, crushed, fallen from great hights, had phneumoia 8 times, had a fire ball explode in my face as a 5 lbs piston flew past my head, been in 10 car accidents by accident and 6 on purpose, some say I think im imortal ...Do you wonder y i think Im indestructible ??? I have to think it, what would u think when u wake up and u say to ur self I shouldnt beeeee waking up ???

Beautiful story thank you Baxter and his caregiver for all they have done for others. Baxter is now running around having fun in Heaven.

I Balled my eyes out!! And the music didnt help either! But what a wonderful wonderful thing to do for sick and dying patients! I think that ALL hospitals should have this type of service.ONLY knowing that the dog would have a good owner to be with him/her at all times. This is the most touching story that I have seen on Godvine yet!!! TWO THUMBS UP!!! Just goes to show that God knew what he was doing when he puts dogs on this earth. God BLESS Baxter and his owner for doin such a heartfelt and touching thing for those patients. Truely a blessing from God!

Such an insprirational video.
I had a Greman Shepherd/Wolf mix. She knew when I or my daughters felt ill and would lay next to us til we felt better. I had her for 13 years, and she was the best dog I ever had.
I love miss and love you Daisy!

It made me tears to watch this clip.
My dearest gal, my soul mate left me 1 day before I'm back from New Zealand, I heard the news on the phone while she's passing away and I felt helpless and hopeless not being there for her @ that very moment. We bond and from her I knew what unconditional love is.
I remember the night b4 I went on holiday she was still smiling and looking happy and 11 days later w/o a sign she left me. I missed her dearly every sec and min, 20 days had passed but I still missed her badly, a big part of me was gone, I'm not sure I can ever be that happy and contented again.
I wish her to be back and I pray to God daily hoping 1 day I can see her in heaven.

What a touching moment.I love all animals especially dogs.With my dog it was unconditional love and I miss him dearly.I wept for two days when he died and I don't mind what people say. I heard it all too from it was only a dog get another one to MEN DON'T CRY!!! Well this was does and I'm not ashamed to admit it.Love makes the world go round and after viewing this video tears were coming down my cheeks but today they were happy tears in the knowing that there are good and decent people and animals :) still around!!!

Sadly he passed away about a year ago but from what I heard he had been with many for their final moments.Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to tell me what breed or breeds Baxter is. This is the video that inspired us to work really hard with a wonderful dog of our own. Of course, Yogi worked hard too. Now my wife and Yogi are a team. Yogi is a certified therapy dog and with my wife visits trauma and cancer patients at our local hospital. Also the local Ronald McDonald house and nursing homes. smile

Yep, bawled my eyes out watching this video. I pray that should I be in this position near the end of my life, that my 2 dogs, my boys, will be with me til the end. I wish, I pray, that I never have to face the day when they won't be with me. I wish they could live forever. That we would be together forever. My dogs are not certified, but they are emotional support service animals. I suffer severe depression, and they are the only reason that I am still alive. I love you Odie and Tucker, so much. You are my life, my world, my happiness smile
