Does God expect you to confess your sins to everyone around you as well as to him to be forgiven or is he pleased when you repent to him alone?
Answers to this Question
He expects you to make peace with whomever you have differences with and to repent to Him
No, that would only start trouble. Yes we are to confess our faults one to another to be healed. The reason for that is to heal our soul so healing can move from the Spirit through the soul and into the flesh, but if proverbs teaches us anything we have to you wisdom when, how and who to talk to.
unless you had directly offended someone or maligned their character or had defrauded them, your confession would only be to god. otherwise you would need to go to that person and make things right. mathew 5.23 to 24, luke 19, 1 tim 5.19, rev 12.9 to 11. groundwire.net
What if the sin didn't hurt anyone else but yourself but you still feel that you must repent to God?
If you didn't hurt or offend another person, then it is between you and God.
Go to your Father in heaven and make it right and draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
James 5:13-18 Is the outline of confession and healing .
Some sins you confess others need not be .
However a solid leader that is safe and practices confidentiality the Bible would call that person an Elder ( note they anoint you w/ oil your forgiven and healed ) so not just anyone who is older is the right person .
Hopefully this helps .

Usually sin affects others. Searh your heart and see what damage this sin has done. If you have affected others, yes you need forgiveness from them.
If it is between you and God alone, then Heavykey is right, it is God and yourself whom you have harmed. Seek His forgiveness and learn from your sin. Like Jesus told the adultress, "Go and sin no more." Please read, John 8:1-12
