  • jesus came to bring truth to our inward parts and not just external religiosity as the jews had fallen into. psalm 51.6. he elevated gods righteousness to a whole new level, determined by the condition of heart. mark 7. to really show us how sinful we really are and to make us see that only by jesus grace could we ever be saved. rom 6.14, ephes 2.8 to 9. those who would be justified by the law have nothing to stand on since their own inward unrighteousness accuses them each day. isa 64.6, rom 3, gal 2 to 5. by being born again, we can have gods word printed on our very hearts, fresh and clean, and thereby please god in what we do. ephes 2.10, 1 cor 3. john 3.3. only those who walk in the spirit can please him. gal 5.16 to 26. those who walk only by the letter are still under the abolished law. col 2.14 to 17. groundwire.net

  • Matthew 19:16-24
v.16 "one came and said unto him (Jesus), "Good Master what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"
    Jesus responds with the commandments;
    v. 17 "...but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
v.18 "Then he (the man) saith unto him, "Which?"
    v.18&19 Jesus said,
    "Thou shalt do no murder,"
    "Thou shalt not commit adultery,"
    " Thou shalt not steal,"
"Thou shalt not bear false witness,"
    "Honor thy father and mother;"
"Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself"

    v. 20 (The man) "All these things I have kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?"
v.21 (Jesus)"If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell all that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."
v.22 But when the young man heard that...he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

The man went away sorrowful, because at that moment he realized what his sin was, covetness(the love of riches more than God and man).

God uses the commandments to show us what sin is.
Gal.3:24 Tells us that "The Law is our Schoolmaster".
Romans 7:7 tells us , "I had not known sin but by the law".

We like sheep have gone astray, "there is none that doeth good, no not one". In other words no one can meet God's standards, save Jesus Christ.
The only way to line up to God's standards is to accept the free gift that Christ has given us in that He is the only One to line up with God's standards. But wait because God is a God of Justice, a dept must be paid, sin must be punished. All liar's, murders, adulters, etc... must meet God's Justice.
To understand God's Justice, we must understand His Goodness:

On Feb.24th 2005, a nine year old girl was reported missing from her home in Tampa, Florida. Two months later prosecutors reported that she had been brutally raped and then buried alive. Little Jessica Lunsford was found tied up in a kneeling position clutching her stuffed toy.
How do you feel toward the man who did that? Are you angered? Are you outraged? I hope so.
If you didn't care about Jessica's fate, it would reveal something horrible about your character.
I told this story to a Jehovah's Witness once, I asked him, what punishment should God place on the man that did that to Jessica. He said the man should only be punished for a little while then exist no more. I asked him by whose standard are we to punish him. He could not answer. If we answer that, then are we not placing ourselves on the very Judgement seat of Christ? Jehovah's Witness don't even believe in punishment.

Do you think that God cares about evil acts like that? You can bet your precious soul that He does! He is Outraged about it. If He wasn't, that would say something horrible about the character of God. So here's the point, The Anger of Almighty God against evil is actually evidence of His Goodness. That He cares for us. If He wasn't Angered, He wouldn't be good. We cannot separate the Goodness of God from His Wrath. If God is Good by nature, He must be unspeakably Angered at wickedness. The Bible says that He is angry with the wicked everyday. So it makes sense that there is a place of punishment for the wicked. And that place is called Hell.

God is so Holy and pure He cannot let sin enter into His Kingdom. So He created Hell for those who choose their own reasoning and ways, though it is not His will that any should perish.

Hell is a holding place for the ones who have disowned God, it is the absence of God. When God is absent, Chaos Erupts. So what is evil? The measuring rod of the Ten Commandments shows us that evil is anything to harm yourself or others. This is why Christ used the commandments.

Because God is a God of Justice, He demands Justice to be paid.

If you have a traffic ticket for speeding 90 mph, and wreck less driving (because you were on the phone not paying attention): You go before a Judge, You tell the Judge, I am good person, I have done good things, I have other merits. Please let me Go, I won't do it again. Is it fair for the judge to let you go? Heaven forbid! No! You broke the law. Justice must be served. Just as the judge is about to pass sentence, he steps down from the bench, takes his robe off and places it upon you. He says, it's ok my son. I'll pay the fine, I'll take your punishment, your free to go, but you have to accept the payment placed in your stead.
This is exactly what Christ did for us, He sent a Ransom to take our place 2000 years ago.
When Christ suffered on the cross for us, He did it as a spotless man, yet he was God in the flesh. Think about it, The sacrifice had to be Eternal or it wouldn't last.

When you stand before the Judgment seat, will Christ be able to say on your behalf, It's ok I've paid the fine, your free to go.

After Salvation we are free from the Commandments, nevertheless, if we are His, we will obey them because now we delight in God's Justice.

    Psalm 1:2
"But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doeth he meditate day and night."

  • Chris and Shirley i thank you so much for your response and i do have a much better understanding now.

  • Jesus said if you love God and your neighbors as you love yourself you have kept the whole law not 10 commandments, 633 commandments, Of course this was addressed to people who believed He was the Messiah and the Son of God.

  • We are not free from the commandments that pertain to righteous. They are the very works that we should be doing by the Grace and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Being under the law means when one sins and the curse of the law is brought upon them. Repentance is available through Jesus Christ. Under Grace means we have received Grace and Favor from God to redeem us from the curse. Meaning the death penalty that we all deserve, hell. If we do not repent but instead keep walking in the sin. Without seeking Grace and Power from the Holy Spirit then we place ourselves back under the law.

    Hebrews 10:26
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

That passage means when a person knows that it is sin and does not repent but instead keeps sinning their is no sacrifice remaining. Can he repent later? Yes but it must be sincere

Okay about the passage Matthew 5.

Okay look at who is coming to Jesus first when it comes to Matthew 5 it is the same thing that shuts sinners mouths up. Jesus used the law, which is holy and good, to show the heart of the person.

    Proverbs 3:1-2
1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.

God's commandments are for the best and brings life to the spirit man or woman. It can bring life and Joy when being empowered by the Holy Spirit.

So the answer to your question should we keep the 10 commandments the answer is Yes. Keep searching bud God bless you.

    ~ Blessings

  • Hopefully i didn't ramble to much. :^/

I kinda get a flow type thing in my heart and basically put it down in the answer. Maybe somebody needed it or not who knows. anyways love ya bud.

  • Always apreciate you and your discussion davara64. Have a great day . Your brother in Christ, jimmio

  • UnConditional,
The truth is that if you are truly born again, you don't need to read the 10 commandments to be able to keep them for God has written His commandments in your heart and mind in the form of your conscience that convicts you if you even start to think about sinning.

Also note that the commandment about the Sabbath day was fulfilled in Jesus as revealed in Hebrews chapter 4 such that we no longer need to worry about worshipping or avoiding physical labor on Saturday, because Christ fulfilled it completely. You keep the Sabbath by not trying to earn your salvation by religious works, but by receiving it by faith in the finished work of Christ.

  • @shirleydaughteroftheking "How do you feel toward the man who did that? Are you angered? Are you outraged? I hope so."

    Sentence: public hanging :)

  • For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.Ephesians 2:10

i dont do works to earn my salvation. Just like i try not to sin to let my salvation go. It works the same with works...

First having faith and repenting to God and receiving Jesus Christ. Then what is automatic in the persons heart later on? Its towards the lines of Hey uhm God could you show me how i can love you like you want me to? Where does God point them? To the commandments because Jesus says those who keep my commandments are those that love me and abide in me.

They are not a cursing if the person who is obeying is obeying after faith. Not as a result for salvation and achievement. But as a result of drawing near and using his or her body to glorify God in everything that he or she does.

  • Yes Predrag, I'm glad I'm not God, I'd just wipe everyone off the map, but then I'd have to wipe myself off too. hahaha

    Darva darling,
If you are saved, your Salvation can never be lost. I'm not too sure you meant to say that?
Those translations that say "being saved" are inaccurate.

    John 10:27-28
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know tham, and they follow me."
"And I give unto them eternal Life; and they shall NEVER PERISH, NEITHER shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

1 Peter 1:3-5 Speaks of Christians who are "begotten",
"To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and the FADETH NOT AWAY, reserved for you in Heaven. Who are KEPT by the POWER of GOD through faith unto Salvation...
