This is a story of a miraculous survival, pregnancy and birth - all taking place in the wildnerness of Alaska! Photographer Steven Kazlowski was tracking a female polar bear in a very dire situation. The poor thing had its leg broken and it seemed that time was running out for her. Before the photographer could find out if the bear survived, he had to leave the state.

A year later, Steven returned to Alaska to find the bear. To his surprise, she was healthy! Not only that, but she miraculously gave birth to healthy twin cubs. She wasn't suffering, either. The bear was enjoying her time as a mother, playing with her cubs and even saying hello to the camera!

"I was very surprised to see her, especially with two big healthy cubs," said Steve.

"When I last saw her she was so underweight and desperate-looking. She possibly broke her foot on ice. She had no claws on her left hind foot, leaving her having to hop like a rabbit to travel and hunt seals in the harsh arctic tundra."

But now, this girl is a happy mother. Her leg is still broken and isn't of much use, but now she has her family to keep her company. Thank God for this happy outcome!
