When Tigger, a mixed breed, was being walked in Manhattan last week. A young girl had him on a leash but then, suddenly, he got away from her. He ran away into the cold December weather.

The 13 year-old rushed after him, but after a couple of blocks, Tigger vanished. His owners put up fliers that same day and even launched a Facebook page (Help Find Tigger). They enlisted their friends and co-workers to help look through the city. Their doggie day care even sent out a search party.

Tigger was microchipped, so if he turned up at a shelter they would be alerted, but his owners went looking through rescues anyway.

He wasn’t turning up. The couple even hired a few scent hounds to track Tigger, using the scent from his bed. They were so worried that he would get sick and die out in the elements.

The following paragraph was one of the last, desperate posts they made on their Facebook page:

“We are still searching for our Tigger [...] We miss him so so much. We wanted to ask you to please share and like our page to get the word out. We also wanted to ask all of you in New York City to help us. If you are able to, if you could please print up a few flyers (just 5-10) and post them at intersections within a few blocks of your apartment and let us know where you are located. We believe we can get more of the city covered this way and hopefully faster replace the flyers that have been torn down. Thank you so much!!!!!! We need your help to bring our puppy home!”

The next day, during the FREEZING polar vortex weather, a stranger called. They found Tigger.

"We thought it was probably another hoax.”

They went to the good samaritan’s apartment. Although Tigger’s tags were gone, it was him all right. The man who found him worried he might be abandoned. He also didn’t want to leave him out on the street due to the weather and the terrible prejudice people have against pit bulls.

So there was a happy ending… with an extra surprise. During the couple’s search for Tigger, they found another loving stray dog. They decided to take that pup in, too, and give him a loving home.

God bless their kind hearts!
