The Richmond Police Department invited teens to come and take part in a police training experience called MILO. This training helps officers understand when to fire and when not to fire in tough situations. Seeing how the teens reacted before and after participating in the training is very interesting. What a powerful reminder of the danger these officers face everyday.
Chief Alfred Durham has invited community leaders, reporters and faith leaders to experience MILO training - an exercise that shows how and when officers should use force - and how quickly dangerous situations can emerge.
Last week Training Academy Captain Harvey Powers invited a group of teens to take part. Their comments before and then after the scenarios showed how fast perceptions - and understanding - can change.
