Book of 1 Samuel

1 Samuel Summary

The Book of Samuel is a theological history of the Israelites affirming and explaining God's law for Israel under the guidance of the prophets.

1 Samuel begins by narrating how Yahweh chose the prophet Samuel at his birth. After this is the story of the Ark, which brings about Samuel's anointing of Saul as Israel's first king. Saul eventually proves to be unworthy and instead God chooses David. David then defeats Israel's enemies and brings the Ark to Jerusalem. God then promises David and his successors an eternal dynasty.
